How can I update my graphics card driver?
How can I update my graphics card driver?
Solution
If there is a problem with Perspector freezing or crashing, follow these steps to update the driver of your graphics card.
First, identify your graphics card/driver manufacturer:
1. Go to the Start menu (the Windows button on Vista).
2. Right-click on ‘Computer/My Computer’.
3. Click on ‘Properties’.
4. Then, if you are not using Windows Vista, click on the ‘Hardware’ tab at the top.
5. Click on ‘Device Manager’.
6. Click on the plus sign next to ‘Display adapters’.
7. Make a note of the manufacturer and model.
Then to update, you then have a couple of choices:
Method 1
Try right-clicking the display adapter at this point and, select ‘Properties’, then ‘Driver’. You are then offered options for finding an updated driver on the internet, and for restoring your old one if necessary.
Method 2
Go to your graphics card manufacturer's website and download and install their latest OpenGL driver. If you cannot find the driver, send an email to the technical support department of the card manufacturer.
If you are using a laptop/notebook computer you may have to go to its manufacturer's site to update the driver.
IF THE ABOVE FAILS OR MAKES NO DIFFERENCE...
If you are unable to update your driver, or if it makes no difference, you can try turning off the graphics card hardware acceleration. To do this:
1. Close PowerPoint.
2. Open the Windows Control Panel.
3. Choose Display Properties.
4. Go to the Settings tab and click Advanced.
5. Find the hardware acceleration slider (probably on a Troubleshooting tab) and set to None.
6. Re-run Perspector.
If this makes no difference, repeat the steps to restore the hardware acceleration level to its previous setting. If it does work, you will probably be able to change the hardware acceleration level to a level between none and maximum.
